Tips for maintaining healthy skin and get additional health benefits:
- Drink at least 1/2 ounce of water per pound of bodyweight. Research shows that most people are dehydrated but don’t know it. More water in your body means more moisture. More moisture means less wrinkling and aging. According to an American Journal of Public Health article, acute infections, such as urinary tract infections and pneumonia, frequently occurs with elderly people hospitalized for dehydration. So besides moist skin, you can prevent infections.
- Get adequate Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps maintain collagen and the connective tissue of the skin, thus, prevents wrinkling. Sun exposure, in moderation, is a healthy and natural method by which our skin produces vitamin D. Research shows that healthy blood levels of Vitamin D should be 40 to 60 ng/mL. Most people are at about 20 or less, and even lower without sun exposure. If you get your head, arms and legs exposed to mid-day sunlight without sunblock for about 20 minutes 4-5 days a week, you will get adequate Vitamin D. If not, you need a food supplement of 4000 units of Vitamin D a day. In addition, with sufficient vitamin D, there is lesser incidence of colds and flu.
- Take supplemental HCL and digestive enzymes. The primary benefits of HCL and digestive enzymes are improved gastrointestinal function and digestion. They cause wonderful side-effects: they significantly improve skin tone and texture and reduce acne. Many of my patients that take HCL and digestive enzymes have had major improvement in their skin.
